General Manager Green Hydrogen Project Support, OETC
Rashid Al Badwawi has a wide experience and track record of accomplishments (more than 28 years) which includes, but not limited to, strategic leadership, planning, studies, organizational management, project management, design, procurement, construction and commissioning of large-scale multi-discipline and complex projects mainly related to Oil and Gas Industry and Electricity sector in Oman.
• Current position: General Manager Green Hydrogen Project Support at Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) since 21 April 2024.
• Prior experience: Previously Rashid held several positions at OETC, as Corporate Affairs General / Senior Manager from November 2021 till April 2024, Projects Planning Advisor (2017-2021), Senior Manager - Projects (2013-2017) and Strategic Planning and Projects Manager (2008-2013). He was Project Manager at Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (2005-2008) and Senior Project Engineer at Daleel Petroleum (2004-2005). He was Senior Electrical Project Engineer / Electrical Construction Supervisor at Petroleum Development Oman (“PDO”) (1995 -2005).
• Education: Ph.D. degree in Renewable Energy from the University of Exeter, U.K., in 2017. B. Eng. and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Sultan Qaboos University, Oman, in 1995 and 2001, respectively.
R&D Director
Vitthal Sawant has extensive work experience in the field of research and development. Vitthal is currently serving as Director of R&D and Innovation at Oman Cables and MEART Region for Prysmian Group. Vitthal have overs 20+ years of experience in Power Cables. Before joining Oman Cables, he worked in General Cable USA for 6 years. His main role is Designing Cables, developing innovative technologies and services while addressing customer needs for Electrical cables and managing advanced testing set-up of cables. He is actively involved in Sustainability initiative of the company. As an inventor he received 11 Patents for several new technologies he developed. He holds Bachelor and Master degree in Polymer Technology from one of premier institute in India, IIT Delhi. He presented several technical papers at international conferences. Overall, Vitthal has a strong background in research and development, with expertise in materials, innovation, and team leadership.
Petroleum Development Oman
Idris Al Siyabi works as renewable energy lead part of the renewable energy department in petroleum Development Oman Company, Oman. Idris graduated as Mechanical Engineer from Sultan Qaboos University in 2005 and completed a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Sultan Qaboos University in 2011. Idris holds PhD degree in the renewable energy from the University of Exeter, UK with many publications in different areas of renewable energy such as solar PV, solar thermal energy storage and the integrated solutions.
Professor in Electrical & Computer Engineering Department, Sultan Qaboos University
Abdullah Al-Badi received the degree of M.Sc. and Ph.D from UMIST, UK, in 1993 and 1998, respectively. He has published more than 200 publications and co-author one edited book. He carried out 46 research projects and consultancy (Main or co-investigator), with total attracted fund of +US$2.2 million. He is among the Stanford University’s World’s Top 2% Scientists for year 2021, 2022 and 2023. In May 2022 he received the Best Researcher Award and in May 2024 received the Proficiency in scientific publishing ِ Award during university day Sultan Qaboos University. He received from His Majesty the Sultan of Oman, the Royal Order of Commendation (Second Class) Recognition in the field of Research, Innovation and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, 11th January 2023. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical Engineering and Electronics, IEEE, USA and a consultant in Oman Society of Engineers. He was the chair for IEEE Oman Section (January 2020- Dec 2023). He is IEEE program evaluator for Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and External Reviewer for Oman Academic Accreditation Authority (OAAA). In 2009 he was appointed as a Dean for the Deanship of Admissions and Registration, in Feb. 2014 was appointed as a Dean for the College of Engineering, and in 2019 he was appointed as Research Chair, Madayn for the Development of Industrial Estates and Free Zones. Currently he is a Professor in Electrical & Computer Engineering Department in Sultan Qaboos University.
Nama Electricity Distribution Company
Hanan Alabdali is an electrical engineer, graduating from the College of Applied Sciences Sohar. Currently employed as a Renewable Energy Engineer at Nama Group, she specializes in commissioning and energizing small-scale renewable projects up to 25 MW, while also conducting indepth studies on renewable energy topics. Hanan's career highlights include a pivotal role as PMO Lead with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, where she spearheaded projects spanning renewable energy, electricity, hydrogen, CCUS, energy transition, and energy efficiency. Her passion lies in advancing sustainable energy solutions and contributing to the future of renewable energy initiatives.
