Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman’s total electricity generation saw a significant increase of 9% by the end of July 2025, reaching 30,239.3 gigawatt-hours (GWh), up from 27,746.9 GWh during the same period in 2024.
Preliminary statistics from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) show that Oman’s net electricity generation—which includes purchases by the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company and the Rural Areas Electricity Company—increased by 8.7% to 29,308.6 GWh by the end of last July, compared to 26,972.2 GWh in the corresponding period last year.

Oman’s state-run Nama Power and Water Procurement Company (PWP) said 12 companies originally bid for the two independent power producer projects with a total capacity of 2,400 megawatts – one at Misfah in the northwest and the second at Duqm in Oman’s central region.

Chinese renewables technology heavyweight Shanghai Electric’s first solar power plant in Oman – the 500MW Oman Manah-1 Solar IPP Project – has completed one month of smooth operations after passing all assessments and final handover, the tech giant announced in a press statement.
Shanghai Electric was the engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) contractor for the project, and continues to serve as the long-term operation & maintenance (O&M) provider on behalf of Wadi Noor Solar Power Company SAOC, the project company owned equally by EDF Renewables (France) and Korea Western Power Co. Oman Data Park (ODP), the sultanate’s premier provider of managed services, cloud solutions, and advanced cybersecurity, has entered into a strategic partnership with Solar Wadi, one of the first independent Omani power company, to launch a transformative solar power project that will generate 1.4 megawatts (MW) of clean energy in its initial phase.

MUSCAT: Energy Development Oman SAOC (EDO)—the wholly government-owned energy sector holding company—posted revenues totaling $3.776 billion for the first quarter of this year, marginally lower than the $4.005 billion recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.
Announcing its unaudited interim condensed consolidated financial results for the first three months of 2025, EDO reported production expenses of $290.882 million, down from $333.128 million in Q1 2024. Royalty expenses dipped slightly to $1.422 billion, compared to $1.577 billion a year earlier. Profit before tax amounted to $510.220 million, down from $890.416 million in Q1 2024.

MUSCAT: Singapore-based Meranti Green Steel
(MGS), a leading player in low-carbon steel production in the Asia-Pacific region, has announced further progress in its plans to invest in a major green steel project at the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD) in southeastern Oman.
